Scam

A scam that I was involved in happened in the summer of 2023. It happened during the NBA Playoffs. The Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors were playing Game 5 in San Francisco CA. I just happened to live in San Francisco at the time, and my Girlfriend was in town. She knows I am a die-hard Lakers fan and knew I would’ve loved to go to a Lakers Vs. Warriors playoff game. She and I decided to look for last-minute tickets on Facebook marketplace. I knew it was a risk to try and find someone selling tickets for cheaper than they go for the day of the game. But, I was willing to take that risk to a certain degree. Tickets went for over $700 each for decent seats. She found a guy who was selling 2 tickets for a total of $400. He said he was out of town on a family emergency and wasn’t able to make the game. He said he was just trying to sell them ASAP and even said other people were contacting him to buy the tickets. He said we could send half first, he would send the tickets. Then we would send the other half. I told her I didn’t trust him and didn’t think he was being truthful to his word. But my girlfriend knew how much I wanted to go and was also willing to risk it and she did. The guy ended up blocking us after we sent the money. This scammer was trying to make a quick couple hundred dollars on some people who were truly just trying to enjoy a great NBA Playoff game and he succeeded. I can say if people are trying to ask you to make transactions online without seeing the person and knowing they have what you are looking for don’t trust them. Because if you send the money there is a likely chance that person will not send you what you “paid for” and just keep the money. So be smart and don’t make the same mistake we did.
